wednesday night we gave finn his first official bath. he did not enjoy the process. nor did we. i was terrified of doing something wrong, eric was irritable and finn's been fuss budget central all week, so it wasn't great timing. the highlight was at the very beginning... we placed him in the baby tub and just got him good and wet, and then he peed. into the tub. dirtying up the lovely pool of warm sudsy bath water that we had made for him. thus we had to pull him out, dry him off lest he get to cold in the interim, and then empty and rinse out the tub. and then we started the process again. fortunately, the peeing did not continue... however the screaming did. sadly, i felt guilty the rest of the night fearful that his body temperature had dropped to very low levels and he was about to go into a hypothermic coma. yes, finn, your mom is neurotic. so he spent the night bundled and on my chest. yes, the whole night. on my chest. strangely we both slept blissfully. but perhaps this is what motherhood is about...
